Fragile Bonds is an interdisciplinary installation that merges visual art, physics, and sociology. Through the metaphor of burning candles (parents) and rising bubbles (children), the work explores the tension between support, expectations, and emotional pressure in family relationships.
Concept
A dark background enhances the brightness of the flames, while bubbles rise through warm air and burst unpredictably. This visual language represents the delicate emotional reality between parents and children, especially in cultures where high expectations and emotional blackmail silently create pressure.
Technical Setup
The installation uses a box structure made from transparent plastic sheets wrapped in black paper. Around fifty candles are arranged with safe spacing, creating enough heat for convection to lift the bubbles. This transforms a simple physical phenomenon into a meaningful emotional metaphor.
Reflection
The piece aims to encourage reflection on emotional manipulation, “helicopter parenting”, and the psychological impact on young people. The slow movement of candles and bubbles invites the audience to pause and consider their own experiences and family expectations.
